Verndari Part 1

In a dark room dimly lighted by small candles, two arrays were formed by twelve individuals. Another one with the highest authority sat on her arm chair on a raised platform, crossed-legs, and a black veil covering her facial features. And one was caught captive in her cage, pleading for a second chance.

“Exterminate her now!” the blonde woman, who looked like she is in her mid-forties, sitting on her arm chair, ordered her subordinate to kill the young lady in white summer dress, captured in a cage just small enough for her hands to move freely.

“NOOOO!!! Please! Lord! Please give me another chance! I promise no betrayal this time!!!!” the young woman pleaded. She was rather good-looking, with pale skin tone, chestnut brown waist-length hair and a pair of matching brown eyes. Tears had formed from the corner of her eyes. If only her hands were not handcuffed by diamond, she would be able to conjure a tornado and escape away from her death.

“What? Who are you to talk back to me, little puny kid? I am the Lord and you have to listen to me! I accept no betrayal, even it means having to forsake the lives of humans to keep us safe from the Modified!” the one seemingly named ‘The Lord’ answered. She sat highly on her luxurious arm chair and sipped on her cup of English Tea. “Exterminate her now, Pegasus K. Vegas.”

The man called upon stood forward from his original position in the right array and bowed to the Lord.

“Yes, milord,” Pegasus answered. He was a tall young man with blonde hair and wore a leather blue suit with a matching long jacket. He was the leader of the Thirteen Clan.

“Please, LORD!!! Please! Hear my explanations!” the one caught captive continued to beg for her last chance for survival. She was Sophia D. Halter, the leader of the Fourth Clan.

“Pegasus K. Vegas, now.” The Lord gave her ordeal.

Pegasus nodded his head and bowed in respect.

“Sophia D. Halter, any last words?” Pegasus asked, his expression was softer than ever.

Sophia felt her heart quenched a little but then later resigned to her fate. She stopped all her screaming and pleading since none of them worked against the Lord.

“Am I really going to end my 600 years of life now?” She breathed in deeply before continuing.

Pegasus gave her a nod and she sighed.

“I, Sophia D. Halter, have nothing to say except to thank Pegasus K. Vegas for giving me such a wonderful life. I have felt your deep love and had been really touched by it. Thank you my Lord for having Pegasus K. Vegas to be the one to end my life. I, have nothing much more to remorse for except the Lord for not choosing to hear my explanations.”

“Sophia D. Halter! You are incorrigible even till the end! End her life now, Pegasus!” the Lord screamed.
Her cup cracked under the fast vibration of the sound waves from her voice.

Pegasus nodded. A tear had trickled down to his cheek. Under his weapon, his own eyes, his very own hands, he is going to end his wife’s life of 600 years.

“Hear my cries, Blood Scythe!” he called, raising his arms and calling upon the dark ceiling as a whirl pool started accumulating. It then calmed down to form the shape of a scythe. It was black and its blade shone under the dim light with such pride. The Blood Scythe was named after by the humans when they first saw it stained with the blood of many. It was said that no one had ever survived after challenging the wielder of Blood Scythe.

Pegasus held on the scythe with experienced. Unlike Sophia who is more used to conjuring winds to attack people without having to touch them, Pegasus was more suited for hand-to-hand combat. Never was there once had he lost to anyone in that area.

He raised the scythe up to his shoulder-length and swung it down with such great force. “Blood Grace!” he exclaimed as a bolt of power travelled from the scythe in lightning speed to where Sophia was. As still as a
rock, Sophia stayed silently and calmly as she waited for her death.

“Ice Rain!”

A familiar voice rung across the room as the surge of energy coming towards Sophia was stopped. The Blood Scythe that Pegasus was holding on to froze. Everyone else in the room knew just who interrupted
Sophia’s death ordeal.

“Stephanie J. Evermount, what do you think you are doing!” the Lord asked.

Everyone, including the two involved in the death ordeal turned their head to face the leader of the Seventh Clan. She had a black veil similar to the Lord’s one, covering her beautiful features. She undid the veil to show herself to the Lord.

“I’m sorry to interrupt the death ordeal, milord.” Her velvet voice was loud and clear enough for everyone in the room to hear.

“Care to explain your reason, Stephanie J. Evermount?”

“I am sure our job as a Verndari (take note: Verndari means ‘protector’ in Icelandic) is to protect the humans from getting attacked by the Extraterrestrials. We were blessed with what the human call Supernatural Powers. And in return for these powers, we have to protect the vulnerable humans. This is what we should do and what Sophia had done well. I am sure she has the right to be free from death and be given a rise in her position.” Stephanie spoke. She had sapphire blue waist-length hair, half-tied up with a loose blue ribbon. Her ruby eyes shone even in the dark room.

“Watch your words, Guardian of Water.” An elderly man with a tuft of white beard under his chin spoke. He was the leader of the Fifth Clan and also the left-hander man of the Lord.

“Never mind about it, Christian L. Kryton. Stephanie J. Evermount, could you kindly complete your speech please,” the Lord narrowed her eyes at Stephanie.

The tension in the room was getting heavier and heavier. The Lord’s aura is overwhelming the others. It was said that apart from the Noble Verndari, the most powerful Verndari would be the Lord.

“Yes, milord. Sophia D. Halter had tried to save the lives of a million human in the place called the United States of America, from the Modified. Although it is against the laws of Verndari to expose ourselves to the Modified, I think Sophia should be greatly praised for her bravery and her heart to protect the humans even if it means sacrificing her life,” Stephanie ended her speech and bowed, returning to her original position.

Silence engulfed the whole room. No one dared to speak another word to the Lord. The aura emitting from her is getting heavier and heavier and they knew just better to keep their mouths shut to protect their lives.

“So, you are now wanting me to release Sophia D. Halter?” the Lord hissed.

Stephanie stepped out and nodded her head.

The Lord breathed in a huge breath and spoke again. “Know your place, Stephanie J. Evermount.”

“I am stating what the law of Verndari has to say.”

“You little bitch…” she growled. Then, she pointed to the sky.

Everyone gulped.

Everyone knew just what she is going to take out.

Her weapon…

“I, the mighty Lord of the Verndari, summon you out, Black Dragon Sword!”

Stephanie knew just how determined the Lord is to kill her and summoned her own weapon.

“Answer my call, Ice Spear!”

And just like this, the land of Eternity in which the Verndari is living in is going to undergo a major destruction between the two who held great powers.
