PAWN - Part III

Chapter 3

In the perspective of Yellow

Yellow's turn

I stared at the gigantic dice in front of me. It showed the number four.

"Who's turn is it?" I heard Green call out.

"Not sure. But I bet it's not my turn. I just passed it with flying colours," Red boasted.

"You're just lucky," Green scoffed.

"And I remain silent, listening to their lover's quarrel," I deliberately voiced out. Red and Green are always on logger-heads. Even if they were 10m apart now.

"Shuddap," they said in unison.

I chuckled.

As if to rain on our parade, an ominous shadow was cast over us once more. Seeming to stop, above my head. I could faintly make out the yellow lace it was clothed in.I knew there was such a thing as Karma!

I felt it wrapping around my waist and lifting me up, higher and higher. Butterflies were fluttering in my stomach and I almost thought I was almost about to cry out 'Mum!'.

Never in my life had I enjoyed the feeling of being in the air... I had serious Acrophobia. I found myself whooshing across, over Green and Blue, over Red, even. The air violently gushing against my face, almost smothering me. I felt myself turn pale, feeling sick to the stomach. Then, almost as quickly as I was being raised, I was put back down. 10 metres away from red, and through the thick foliage and greenery in the forest, I could no longer spot Green and Blue.

"What's happening now, are we all going to be separated?" Blue whimpered worriedly, her voice still clear to my ears. It's a queer feeling, hearing your friends, even when you can no longer see them.

The yellow hand returned, passing me the yellow envelope I was expecting, it was now close to me, and I could see the yellow daisy pattern on the lace. I tried to jump on the hand, to be free and go back to my friends. But I was only flicked away like a meddling ant, forcefully hitting the invisible boundary.

It looked like I would be stuck here.

Opening out the envelope, I retrieved the yellow card, and read it out loud.

"The Warm bright sun,
is a mellow yellow.
Fortune shines on you,
My good fellow."

"Oh my god you lucky bastard." I could hear Red, banging his head on the boundary.

The ray of light shone directly at my face, the only shield I had from it were from the leaves above. A silhouette was fluttering down. A butterfly? A leaf? Then the sunshine dimmed, as though a passing cloud had blocked it, and I looked down. Staring back at me was a paper doll.

"It's...it's a paper doll..."I told them, "Do I keep it?"

"I am sure there's no harm in doing so..." Green said, with some hesitation. As I picked it up, a cool breeze blew by, sending chills down my spine. Then again, can anybody be sure?

I looked at it, as it lay weakly in my hand. It's blank eyes, staring back at me. It was a princess, or queen of some sort, for there was a tiara on her head. And she was dressed in a Yellow evening gown, the only coloured portion of her white body.

Other than that, there was really, nothing out of the ordinary. "ok, then."

"Hey Red, what does your doll look like?"

"Some girl with two ponytails, and a red dress that trails off at the side. Oh and she's totally fair. Even her hair's porcelain white, a great contrast with my fiery red locks. She should totally use my shampoo."

"Yeah, sure, Babypoo Shampoo. That's the kind of shampoo you use right?" Green, looking to annoy Red again.

"Stop arguing you guys, what does your doll look like, Yellow?" I heard Blue chirp, laughing at Red and Green.

"Mine's as white as the clouds can be too. But mine's different..she..she has a tiara and an air of royalty around her. Perhaps the dolls mean something?"

"Stop scaring yourself Yellow, like the poem said, fortune shines on you, so it has to be a good thing right?" Red said, but I could sense some nervousness in his voice.

"I guess..."

It may have been a trick of light, or perhaps the heat and humidity of the forest was getting to me, for as I slipped the doll into my pocket, and glimpsed at its face before it slid in...

I'm pretty sure it blinked.
